Human Readable URLs

Contensis URLs

Contensis creates human readable URLs based on the names of folders and pages which are created in the CMS. For example, if you have a folder in the root of your site called Events and a page within that folder called Event Name, the URL for that page would be www.yourdomain.com/events/event-name.html

Benefits for users

Research shows that users sometimes navigate using their address bar. If they are on a path of /Events/Event-Name/ ,  they might remove " Event-Name/ " from the URL and expect to see a page listing all events. You may think that only technical users navigate in this way, but many non-technical users are using this technique.

Content editors can also see the URL of a page and understand how to navigate to it using the Project Explorer in the CMS.

Benefits for SEO

Having properly formed URLs helps the site's search engine optimisation. When users create the URLs they will typically include important keywords in the URL which will then be indexed by spiders such as Google.

Contensis allows you to enforce file naming policies, so you can be sure that the URLs are consistent.

SEO friendly URLs are also better for sharing on social media channels as users will judge from the URL path whether the content is relevant and worth visiting.

Aliases

Create custom URLs for better user experience Aliases allow you to set any URL for any item of content. Instead of: www.yourdomain.com/events/event-name.html , you can set: www.yourdomain.com/event-name . For this reason aliases are often very useful for marketing campaigns.

Aliases can also be useful when you have changed the location of content. If you changed the URL of a page, you could use the old URL as an alias so any visitor who have bookmarked it or clicked through from an external link will find the new page.
