Release 6 launched

What's in R6
We're proud of what we have achieved with our greatest release so far - R6 brings the latest advantages the web can offer straight into all of the organisations that use Contensis.
If encouraging interaction within your organisation or community is a priority then you'll be interested in the new Social Media capabilities, if you're focused on outreach then you'll love our Podcast and Email Marketer integration. Contensis now integrates with Google Apps, and we've also introduced 64-bit support taking full advantage of developments in server technology.
Over the past few months some of our customers have been using the beta version of R6 (their projects required new features that weren't yet released). This enables us to offer R6 as a mature release having been used in the real world for some time.
During each development phase we ask our customers for the "wish-list" of features they'd like to see in the next release. In this version we have included 20 - some of these are listed below.
Feature highlights
Multimedia controls
R6 brings in our new suite of controls for slideshows, streaming media and image galleries. Just point the Folder Images control at a folder and it auto-populates a slideshow on the page. JW Player is the most popular flash player on the web - Contensis now comes with a licence to use any of the premium JW Player skins.
Aliases For those times where you want to choose a concise and memorable URL for a web page:
-
instead of www.yourdomain.com/events/event-name.aspx
-
you can set: www.yourdomain.com/eventName
Localisation
R6 introduces language localisation support for all of our standard web controls so you can simply change any of the text rendered using the new built-in localisation editor. The Contensis interface itself can be translated into multiple languages to enable organisations to support employees with differing regional or international languages.
Multilingual*
This module provides the ability to deploy your site in multiple languages. As an example, Domino Printing Sciences have used these features extensively to produce a site which is available in 7 languages, across as many countries.
Context Sensitive help
Within Contensis, each area has context sensitive help providing users with relevant information about their current task.
Taxonomy Editor
Every organisation categorises content differently - the Contensis Taxonomy Editor enables you to control how content is categorised according to your own specification. As this categorisation or vocabulary grows, editors using Contensis will be able to organise content using consistent naming conventions according to your organisation's specification.
Full 64-bit support
Contensis now takes full advantage of 64-bit processing - this allows for increased access to processing power and larger memory capacity.
Email Marketing integration
R6 now fully integrates with Interspire's feature-rich Email Marketer application. Simply add a subscription control to any web page in Contensis and choose which contact list you want the user to subscribe to. Anyone currently using our Email Marketing service can immediately benefit from these new features.
Quality Assurance*
The quality assurance module allows you to perform site-wide spelling and link validation checks while also providing the facility to enforce Accessibility and HTML quality policies.
Social Networking*
With the social networking module you can create an online community (similar to Facebook or LinkedIn) that is integrated into your existing website, or you can build a Social Intranet that encourages internal communication within your organisation.
Podcast Module*
Our Podcast module provides full control over scheduling and expiration of published podcasts. Each podcast can be categorised and users can subscribe using iTunes or they can be notified of new podcasts via RSS feeds.
Google Apps Integration*
The Google apps integration enables you to integrate a Google domain with Contensis. Users then use a single sign-on for your website and Google apps. With this integration you are able to serve users' documents and email to a dashboard within your existing website.
Local Government Navigation Pack (LGNL)*
This latest version of Contensis provides mapping between the way a local council organises its services (LGSL) and the Local Government Navigation List (LGNL). A department within a council can update their own folder within Contensis - the content is then automatically served to the correct area of the website (as defined by the LGNL specification). To manually control this process can be a huge and complex task, Contensis administers this for you.
Commenting
Create two-way interaction with visitors to your site; insert our Comments Control on any page of your website. You have complete control over who is and isn't allowed to make comments. If you allow anonymous users to make posts you might want to take advantage of the comment approval function.
Gravatar Support
This latest release of Contensis supports Globally Recognised Avatars (Gravatars). Gravatars supply an image (set by the user) that is automatically pulled into their profile or comment.
Akismet Integration
Providing a crowdsourced database of recognised comment spam, Askimet filters out unwanted comments posted to blogs or webpages. Askimet requires a subscription.
Thank you
A big thanks to our brilliant team of developers who used their (sometimes frightening) knowledge of everything .NET to develop this latest release. They've produced a solution that takes on the complexity of Content Management while still providing the user with a simple and intuitive interface.
We hope you enjoy exploring the new features we've added - our aim is to continue adding value to your organisation through Contensis and we feel certain that R6 does this. As you know, we like to keep the momentum going so keep sending through your wish-list items for future releases.
