Constructive and Engineered Approach to the Web

Bam Nuttall Ltd is one of the UK's leading civil engineering contractors, offering a full range of services for large and small scale projects through a network of regional offices.
These offices are supplemented by specialist group companies, a geotechnical division, a special projects division, and a dedicated infrastructure maintenance facility often working in alliance with clients.
The objective for the Bam Nuttall web team was to source a robust, functionally-rich content managed portal solution that promotes the company intranet as the first choice source for retrieving and sharing knowledge.
Bam Nuttall had previously implemented a successful intranet which has been in place for 5 years. The application was developed initially by a combination of external contractors and internal resources. The Intranet had been purpose-built from the ground up using a mixture of off-the-shelf components and custom written development code. The initial intranet implementation was developed using Microsoft's ASP technology in conjunction with a SQL Server 2000 database.
The success of the initial Intranet has meant that it is now a central hub for much of the company's knowledge on staff, internal documents and other knowledge base type information.
Due to the aging technology in which the hub of the intranet has been developed the company recognised the need for a replacement intranet that would provide
• All of the functionality of previous application
• Additional functionality
• Easy administration, management and content management by company staff
• The platform for a knowledge management capability
Contensis was chosen as a reliable organisation with a proven track record of delivering high-quality support services to carry out the work. Key areas which had been identified by Bam Nuttall as an essential part of the redevelopment of the new Intranet, was to include:
• Reproduction of the functionality of the existing Intranet
• Rapid and easy retrieval of information
• Knowledge management
• Document management
• Content Management
• Interfaces to existing data providers
The Requirements of the solution also had to include service support in the following areas
• Visual Design / Branding
• Implementation
• Training
• Technical & design support
• Ongoing support and maintenance
The new Intranet site went live during March 2008 with on-going development issues being discussed at regular intervals between Bam Nuttall and the Contensis Account Management team.
"I would like to express my thanks to the Contensis team for the excellent manner in which you handled our project. We now have a fully functioning Intranet, which in time will be the pivotal point of many of our business processes".
