Contensis has a complete framework for membership and registration, which integrates with many of our standard modules such as Forums, Comments, Permissions, Search, Personalisation and much more.

 

The Registration Control

The registration control allows users to register with your website.

The options given for registration are configurable, so you can show all fields including address, company, telephone numbers and more, or you can just request an email address and password.

Asking for limited information improves registration rates and reduces end user frustration. At Contensis we use the registration control for registration with our own support site.

As you can see from the screenshot, the form in this case is quick and easy for anyone to complete.

 

Email Confirmation

Email confirmation can be enabled on the registration control. If enabled, the system will send the user who requested registration a validation email.

The new user account will only be activated when the user clicks on the link sent in the email.

Ensuring users are who they say they are, is often important for site membership.

Domain Verification

Often you may find yourself in a situation where you would love to open up self-registration to any of your customers or suppliers but not the general public.

This issue is dealt with by Domain Verification.

When Domain Verification is enabled, Contensis will check during the registration request whether a group exists with the domain name they have specified in their email.

If you use this option in conjunction with Email Confirmation, you can be sure that the user is who they say they are and they must be part of the organisation you allow, as otherwise they could not have a valid email address at their domain.

For our support site we take this one step further and automatically add Customer Groups to the support site with their allowed domain using the Contensis API.

When a user is registered with Domain Verification, they will be added to the group that they were verified against.

This enables you to personalise based on customer, supplier or any other criteria.

Setting a specific registration group

When users register, you can choose a security group that they will automatically become a member of.

This is very useful if you want to personalise or secure different parts of the site to different types of registration.
