The Simple Menu XML retrieves its information from the published navigation XML file. It provides a nested bullet list of pages, folders that have homepages and any other content types that are set to 'Show In Menu'.

The Accordion Menu control is similar to the simple menu but allows the user to open and close folders without navigating away from the page. Folders open/close with an accordion-style slide animation using either onClick or onHover events.

The Local View Menu control is so called because it only shows the current folder and content and its directly related parent folders. It is a similar concept to a breadcrumb navigation. This simplified form of a menu removes clutter (non-related folders and content) from view, allowing a user to focus on the current folder contents and also providing a quick way to navigate back.
