West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust (WSH) required a content management system to manage site content.

The West Suffolk NHS Hospital (WSH) is a general hospital, which provides a range of acute based services in association with inpatient and outpatient facilities.

West Suffolk Hospital NHS

WSH was founded in 1832, moving to its new site in Hardwick Lane in 1973. It was the first of a new design of hospitals to be known as “Best Buy” hospitals. This was the first standard design to combine a compact and economical hospital to meet modern purposes.

It serves an area of approximately 600 square miles and encompasses a population of approximately 275,000.

Set in a 19-hectare parkland site on the edge of Bury St Edmunds, the hospital has scope for expansion to meet the developing health care needs of the people of west Suffolk.

The current site is run under IIS and is mainly static HTML with formatting controlled by CSS. There are also some ASP.NET pages. The site is maintained using Microsoft Expression Web.

WSH wanted to consolidate their websites to support an intranet, internet and extranet and sought to find a company who would work with the Trust to implement a new content management system. Contensis was chosen following a tender and presentation process and work is about to start with the implementation phases.

About the company

The Contensis Enterprise Content Management suite of products began life, as many products do, following an animated discussion between a group of software professionals back in the autumn of 1998.

They all agreed, after exhaustive evaluation, that most of the products then available fell far short of their own vision and an idea began to gel. By spring 1999 work was well advanced on the specification of a system which not only met their criteria, and that of respected industry analysts, but equally important also reflected the views of end user enterprises. Power, ease of use and cost effectiveness were the key words. The beginnings of the Contensis development team were spawned a little later and work started in earnest to turn the dream into reality.

Philosophy

Our approach is completely customer-centric. Customers are our universe and we see their problems as our problems.

From a software perspective this means that we strive to ensure that every aspect of Contensis is simple to learn and easy to use. We believe we've achieved that, certainly at everyday user level. Even newcomers to the system are normally editing and contributing within minutes.

It's all part of our 'How can we make it simpler' approach.
